There has been a discussion whether universities should only have degree related subjects or there also should be additional subjects such as philosophy, history and etc. This debate has arisen because of high university fees. Personally, I partially agree with the issue and believe that universities should have a option to study only degree related subjects.
It is well known that high education facilities include all set-up costs in fees of the student, so if bachelors had an option to not include those subjects, universities would become much affordable for a common folk. So that it is meaning that governments would benefit from it greatly, because the proportion of people with high-education will rise meaning the lack of professionals for specific task will disappear. One such case is Soviet Union which made high education accessible for the people who are ready to study. Due to such measurements, Soviet Union was able to accomplish industrialization over the period of 10 years, where it was able to increase manufacturing capacities in all spectors of production.
Nevertheless, there are some downsides why such crucial changes should only be made partially. Few of them are a education facility will run out of money and work without profit that is meaning a lot of universities would have to be shutdown. Also, the second reason is many teachers will lose their jobs, because the amount of positions to the workplace will shrink. For example, the UK tried to implement extreme measures in eighties, where reforms concerning it were unsuccessful and it led to economical disaster.
In conclusion, I would say that the given topic is pretty complex and the answer should not go to the extremes
