Band 6+: Science is more useful than human judgement in stopping crime. To what extent do you agree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

These days, people are becoming more aware of increasing crimes. Many experts believe that science might be more reliable than human evaluation in preventing crime, considering that it could be more helpful. In my opinion, science might be more appreciable in deterring criminal activity.

First of all, nature of memory may be overestimate. What I mean is that memory recall is not always accurate and it might lead to confusion. People do not store information exactly as it presented to us, some parts could be omitted. Meanwhile, science is more objective and there is no evidence for misunderstandings. Therefore, it is helpful to reveal crimes without losing any considerable details.

Secondly, science is related to biotechnology, which assists numerous opportunities for criminal identifications. For example, PCR (polymerase chain reaction) is getting advanced. It is a technique that can copy rapidly segments and it already exists in criminalistics, and it might be possible to identify any DNA molecules, such as fingerprints or hair. It would definitely assist in preventing crimes. As a result, that makes evidence more accurate is biotechnology improvement.

Some people might think that there is no chance to replace human’s brain and common sense. In other words, professionals might use practical understanding and their experience as a tool for revealing. However, I do not believe that everyone in criminology knows how to divide what is wrong or right. It is not convincing that every worker has enough experience before and they might confuse. In my opinion, it has some potential dangers, while science is objective.

In conclusion, despite human judgment is a major factor in diminishing criminal activity, science may have a significant impact in this area.
