Band 6+: Single-parent families are increasingly common these days, with single moms or dads taking care of one or more children. Some people say that children can still be raised effectively by one parent, but others believe children need two parents to have a happy childhood. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In light of globalization, single-parent families with single mothers or fathers holding accountability for bringing up children are becoming more popular. Some truths believe that one parent is enough for children to be grown up successfully, while others argue that it is necessary for children to have both moms and dads in their journey of maturity. Although both views hold merits, I agree more with the latter perspective, which would be explained more in the essay.

It is undeniable that living with two parents offer children numerous positive aspects in their childhood. First and foremost, individuals who live with both mothers and fathers can have better economic conditions than those who are not. To be more precise, the money used for raising children from a family which has two caregivers who have their own income can help their children explore and learn more things in their childhood, thus they can create opportunities for their kids to have more experiences and have better jobs when they become adults. Furthermore, when living with both parents, each child can receive love and acquire practical knowledge from different aspects. As each person has their own definition of life – whether they are husband and wife, they can raise their children from their own perspectives, which can build up an emotional and knowledgeable child.

However, I am of the opinion that single parents can still bring up their children in their best way. One factor contributing to this is that love and care are the most significant elements to raise a child, and the number of parents is not the matter. Specifically, if a single mother or father spends enough time taking care of their children, they can fully make up for others’ shortcomings and can also become an example for their children to become caring people in the future. Of equal importance, most single moms and dads now also received support from their extended families. Therefore, even though missing one person in a family is a disadvantage in many fields, the combination between the hard-working of a single parent and grandparents’ financial aid can still create a good childhood for children.

All in all, while having both mothers and fathers can help children to live in better economic conditions and easier to become a sentimental child, single parents can also bring up their children with love, care and support from their larger families. I advocate that it is better for children to have both parents in their childhood, but children living with single moms or dads can still be raised up successfully since love is the most important value in a family.

Whether human personality and development are primarily determined by genetic inheritance or lifetime experience remains a widely debated topic among psychologists and sociologists.
