Smoking is one of the primary causes of dangerous illness and death in today’s world. As it relates to public health discourse, it is believed that the government should ban cigarettes and other items containing tobacco as preventive measure. I strongly support this notion and my stand will be elaborated on in the following paragraphs.
To begin with, cigarettes contain multiple chemical components that provoke addiction in individuals. In the addiction state, smokers will smoke continuously to fulfill their needs and this habit will bring detrimental effects to the body by triggering some dangerous illnesses like lung or throat cancer. For example, chronic smokers will smoke every day, which induces a higher risk of cancer in the long term.
Furthermore, the smoke from cigarettes often evokes discomfort, with some people coughing when the smoke is present. Inhaling cigarettes or tobacco smoke will impact non-smokers negatively since they unconsciously develop illnesses in their bodies, like respiratory issues, for example as a result of frequent smoke inhalation. Therefore, smoking is not only a personal issue but rather a social one because it impacts not only one individual but also numerous people.
To sum up all the points, cigarettes contain unsafe substances that provoke addiction, which is the core of a higher death toll. Additionally, smoke from cigarettes also creates discomfort and makes others develop sickness in their bodies. Therefore, I completely support the notion that the government should ban cigarettes and other tobacco items as a preventive measure to protect the public.
