Band 7+: Smoking should be banned in public areas. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The topic over whether smoking should be prohibited in all public areas is a controversial one. While others argue that such a restriction violates individual liberties, I feel that restricting smoking in public places is an essential step toward protecting public health and creating a cleaner environment.

To begin, smoking in public settings offers severe health dangers to both smokers and nonsmokers. Secondhand smoke is a well-documented health threat that causes a variety of diseases, including respiratory disorders, heart disease, and cancer. By prohibiting smoking in public places, we can decrease nonsmokers’ exposure to these negative impacts and promote a healthier society overall.

Furthermore, smoking in public areas adds to environmental degradation. Cigarette butts are one of the most frequent types of litter, and they take years to degrade. Litter not only degrades the aesthetics of public spaces, but it also endangers wildlife and ecosystems. Implementing a smoking ban in public places will result in cleaner streets, parks, and beaches, benefiting both the environment and the people.

However, others may claim that a complete prohibition on smoking in public areas violates individual rights and personal independence. However, it is critical to remember that the right to smoke should not be at the expense of others’ health and well-being. Public areas are designed to be enjoyed by everyone, therefore guaranteeingThey remain smoke-free, which is a decent step toward creating a more inclusive and safe atmosphere for everyone.

To summarize, while individual freedoms are vital, the need to preserve public health and the environment justifies a smoking ban in all public areas. This approach would result in a healthier populace, a cleaner environment, and a more enjoyable public area for all.
