Band 7+: Some believe governments should spend more money on improving roads and highways, while some think money should be spent improving public transportation, such as buses, trains, and subways. Discuss both points of view and give your opinion.

In today’s modern world, every country aims to enhance its structural elements. However, modernizing roads and highways is crucial for improving the transportation sector. Spending more money on public transport than on roads and highways is not the ideal decision.

To begin with, investing more in roads and highways will make a country more modern and attractive to the world. Additionally, building highways, bridges, and new roads will create connections between two, three, or even more cities, allowing people to travel to their destinations with less time and effort. Furthermore, improving roads and transportation will facilitate access to every single destination within the country. For instance, without roads connecting two different cities, access to those cities via public transport would be impossible. In my view, the government should prioritize the enhancement of roads, highways, and bridges before focusing on other sectors of transportation.

On the other hand, in this modern era, many people own cars and rely on personal transport for their daily lives. Consequently, every country faces similar issues, such as traffic congestion, which can hinder people’s ability to reach their destinations within their desired timeframe. To address these challenges, the government should invest in improving public transport. However, the responsible authorities must also encourage people to use public transportation. For example, enhancing public transport options and ensuring they provide access to key locations is essential. If there is no existing public transport route to a certain area, creating lanes for subways or trains could encourage people to utilize public transportation. This could lead to a reduction in the number of personal vehicles on the road.

In conclusion, while it is important to allocate funds to both sectors, I suggest prioritizing the improvement of roads and highways first, before turning attention to enhancing public transport.
