One school of thought holds that technology plays a vital role in shaping the future of humanity, while others argue that it can carry a certain degree of risks to society. From my perspective, although the latter view is valid, I believe that its advantages outweigh its disadvantages in the long run.
On the one hand, it is clear that one of the most significant benefits that robots bring to humans is shaping humanity’s future. Firstly, the use of robots in manufacturing can improve both productivity and efficiency. To be specific, automation can perform repetitive and time-consuming tasks faster and more accurately than humans. As a result, labour costs and operational expenses are reduced, leading to an increase in economic output. Secondly, technology can help people improve the quality of life. Intelligent robots can assist with household chores, allowing people to focus on their personal and professional goals. For example, in Vietnam, with the introduction of elderly-care robots, not only can they enhance and ensure the quality of life of the senior population, but they also enable younger family members to spend more time on their personal lives.
On the other hand, it is argued that cutting-edge technology can have negative impacts on society. One major concern is the increasing rate of unemployment. Specifically, automation can replace human workers in some fields, including low-skilled and repetitive tasks, resulting in mass unemployment. Thus, as more robots replace human labour, there may be economic inequality due to the imbalance between supply and demand. In addition, since technology becomes more advanced, people are likely to rely on it excessively. With the increase in multi-functional technology, people tend to be less motivated and less capable of critical thinking and problem-solving. For instance, in Vietnam, students are likely to use some artificial intelligence platforms to solve their homework instead of completing it on their own, leading to a greater dependence on technology among the younger generation.
In conclusion, the benefits of artificial intelligence clearly surpass its drawbacks. From positive perspectives, robots can shape humanity’s future in both work and life, namely the improvement of productivity and efficiency and the development in quality of life. However, there are some social drawbacks, including mass unemployment and the higher over-reliance on technology. Therefore, technology should be utilized responsibly to avoid unintended consequences.
