Some people profess that students must study only science and technology, because these subjects are the the basis of better jobs in the future. Other people profess that students must study subjects like history or literature, though these subjects, don’t seem to lead directly to employment.
The people that advocate for science and technology say that this world is changing quickly, and that smart computers and robots are taking over the world, and the world need workers that can travel in space. They argue their point to say that because the world is changing so quickly students will only study science and technology subjects.
The people that advocate history and literature, argue that these subjects teach us much more than a power of another set of facts. History teaches us about how the world has changed and how it arrived to be like it is. Literature forces typically makes us wonder what people are thinking, and why people see things differently. Both types of study enhance and develop good thinking, enhance and develop compassion towards other people, and develop knowledge in the world.
I don’t think a student should only study one type of subject. While I do appreciate how to learn a useable form of thinking and acting, like science, I don’t value better thinking in science if it limits creativity, learning to understand others, or ethical thinking. Education is about providing students with an occupation but also education about being ethical, kind, and thoughtful.
