In the modernized era, there has been a controversial viewpoint that playing a musical instrument should be widely taught to all children, which has sparked considerable debate. Personally, I can neither completely agree nor disagree with this standpoint for several reasons.
To begin with, I partially agree that children should learn to play musical instruments. One of the most significant factors supporting my viewpoint is that music can stimulate children’s brains when they interact with instruments. This means that it can help students enhance their cognitive abilities and creativity from an early age. Another considerable reason is that children who possess extraordinary musical abilities can base their future careers on these talents or simply pursue their passion for music. To be more precise, these children are able to gain a large amount of attention from the public and may even become renowned musicians in the future. As a result, this gradually inspires more people to pursue music.
On the other hand, I also disagree that every child should learn a musical instrument. The foundation for my argument is that some children try studying and practising many times but still cannot improve their musical skills. This implies that they may not possess a natural talent for music. For instance, some children may spend a great deal of time practising musical instruments but still fail to make noticeable progress, making them feel discouraged and lose confidence in their abilities. Another significant disadvantage is that some children may already be busy with many activities at school, so they do not have sufficient time and energy for music. Furthermore, even though some children have no talent for music, they are still forced to learn musical instruments regardless of their choices. As a consequence, these children may feel frustrated, exhausted, and unable to concentrate effectively. In conclusion, although learning musical instruments can bring numerous benefits to children’s cognitive development and creativity, it should not be compulsory for every child. Therefore, children should be encouraged to learn music based on their interests and talents rather than being forced to do so.
