In today’s highly connected workplace, some employers intend to be in touch with their staff for all the time, even during holidays. Although this practice can be advantageous in certain situations, I believe that the drawbacks of this trend are more significant than its upsides because it can seriously undermine work-life balance and employees well-being.
One potential advantage of maintaining communication with workers during their time off is that it can be beneficial particularly when companies need to solve problems more quickly and facilitate faster decision-making. For instance, if companies work with their employees outside working hours, their businesses may grow and resolve the situation quickly, which could also lead to higher salaries for employees. Furthermore, employers and employees may have greater flexibility while maintaining better communication with each other
On the other hand, requiring employees to remain available throughout their holidays can have considerable negative consequences. Most importantly, it prevents workers from fully disconnecting from their professional responsibilities. Holidays are intended to provide employees with rest and alowed them to focus on other crucial aspects of their lives such as spending time with their families and connecting with friends. Therefore, it can be extremely challenging to maintain balance between work and personal life. Moreover, because of this trend employees can experience stress and burnout contributing to a dramatic decrease in work performance.
In conclusion, although being able to contact employees can help businesses deal with difficult work situations and make decisions effectively, I believe that the downsides are greater. This is because holidays are created to give employees relaxation and with new ideas and renewed energy, get back to work.
