Some people believe that movies and TV shows are the best way to learn history, despite their lack of historical accuracy at times.I strongly disagree with this statement as I believe that lack of historical accuracy of time is the most essential thing in studying history.
Firstly, learning history by films and movies can provide misinformation,as they just often reflect the filmmaker’s perspective rather than objective history. Therefore studying legacy by approved books and other sources of information can guarantee learning the right data. For instance,South Korean historical drama”Imperator Kim” was embellished by directors of film as they were korean. But in the real history, there was not any perfection by korean side to mongolians.People can watch the films by interest but without fact-checking, it can spread false information.
Secondly, books and academic sources provide in-depth information, multiple perspectives, verified facts.Unlike films, which reduce complex events into short narrative, books allow students who learn history to analyze the events much better and focus more on details. For example, the film “Tomiris” focuses on the woman who can possess the folk and who can battle with the persian king. But there was more about that,as they did not just win the war, that they can survive after a catastrophe. It shows us,that people can understand history by another side and it open the misunderstanding the history wisely.
Consequently, films and TV shows can not replace the traditional studying history,as they just attract the audience to learn history but not more than. So,books and historian sources of information deeply teach the learners with ensuring the proper understanding of data.
