Many people believe that technology negatively affects social interactions because individuals spend excessive time on their phones. As a result, face-to-face communication is decreasing. However, I believe that technology has both positive and negative impacts on our lives.
On the one hand, excessive mobile phone usage can reduce direct human interaction. For example, people often spend hours scrolling through apps like Instagram or TikTok or searching for information online. In the past, individuals relied on neighbors or friends to answer questions, but now they prefer searching the internet. For instance, when I want to cook a special or traditional meal, I simply look up the recipe on Google instead of asking someone. Furthermore, people often spend their free time on their phones rather than engaging in real-life conversations, leading to social isolation and weakened communication skills. Research has also linked excessive phone use to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.
On the other hand, technological advancements have greatly benefited human connections. Mobile phones allow people to communicate with family and friends regardless of distance. For instance, when someone moves abroad for education or work, they can easily stay in touch through video calls and messaging apps. Phones also help maintain long-term relationships, friendships, and professional networks by providing instant communication. In this way, mobile technology enhances global connectivity.
To conclude, I believe mobile phones contribute both positively and negatively to our lives. While excessive use can harm social interactions, they also provide valuable opportunities for communication and connection. The key is to use technology wisely and in moderation.
