Some people argue that to reduce the high traffic intensity, the government should spend money on building train and subway lines while others believe that it would be a great idea if the users can have more and wider roads. From my perspective, I reckon that constructing larger roads can tackle the problem better than building more metro ways.
On the one hand, it is believed that the government should increase the road size as it is a temporary measure that can cut down on the traffic jams. Firstly, bottlenecks, which are the cause of congested traffic, can be eliminated by building larger roads. When government expenditure is used for expanding roads, high traffic intensity can be minimized. Besides, constructing wider roads allows commuters to have greater flexibility in their travel time, enabling them to reach their destinations more conveniently and punctually. Moreover, increasing the road size is more affordable for the government and possible to address the problems. As a result, building wider roads avoids the financial burden and traffic congestion.
On the other hand, I contend that rail and subway systems will solve the traffic congestion. To begin with, trains are a means of transport that is capable of carrying hundreds of people. Thus, it can meet the transport demand of a huge number of passengers, which can reduce private vehicles substantially. Another point worth mentioning is that trains will not go through intersections and dedicated lines; therefore, travelling will not be interrupted. In addition, metros and trains operate on fixed schedules, which encourages passengers to be more disciplined, develop better time-management skills, and become more aware of the benefits of using public transportation. In a nutshell, building more subway lines will effectively decrease the high intensity traffic.
In conclusion, while investment in train and subway lines can address the problem of traffic congestion, I believe that expanding road size will be more effective to minimize the traffic intensity. If the government looks for a temporary measure, building more larger roads will be a better idea. However, constructing trains and tubes will be more appropriate for the long run.
