Nowadays, a matter of debate is still processing; should students only attach importance to academic subjects, or are extracurricular activities equally significant? Some people think that they should pay attention to academic lessons most of the time, whereas others believe that both are essential.
In my opinion, their importance levels are not the same, but extracurricular activities must exist in student life.
Generally, most people think that students must put their academic subjects on top and that nothing is as important as their grades; even some parents think that extracurricular activities are just a waste of time. But who is going to think about students’ mental and psychological needs? Because of this kind of family, half of the students who study at high school believe they are running out of time. Exams that never end, tests that they have to take until university, family pressures and situations, future stresses, and more. Although grades must be a priority, the brain will need a break without fatigue.
The fact that extracurricular activities contribute to students’ focus. Art and science, museum tours, academic games which improve mathematical intelligence, trekking in forests, and artistic activities for creativity make them much more centred. With all that, their socialization will be better too; it may provide good speaking skills, remove insecurities and timidness; first and foremost, their mental health will be preserved.
In conclusion, I believe that if school administrations let students do extracurricular activities such as I mentioned, their grades can be higher than they expected. The learning process can be hard; parents shouldn’t only focus on exam results and high points because students are still in adolescence, just beginning to explore emotions and the challenges they bring.
