Band 5+: Some people believe that children should not be given homework every day, while others think that it is important for their academic development. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In modern education systems, assigning homework is widely considered a key component of academic progress. While many believe it is essential for learning many still criticize that it is not required and students should be learning completely at school. I however firmly believe in a more balanced approach. In this essay we will discuss both notions before finally giving my opinion.

Since the beginning of school system homework has always coexisted with classroom learning, children are taught by the teachers and are expected to revise and recall the topics at home as well. This is a vital step for learning and retaining information in developing child’s memory. For instance a student who has just understood a complex mathematical formula might forget it later, unless he has repeated it a few more times at home. This process helps him to retain the formula for longer time therefore stating the importance of homework.

Many might still argue saying homework is nothing but a burden for children. People also focuses on how it diminishes childs free time after school which could be utilised to learn other skills and explore more pages of their childhood. For example a 5 year old might need more time outdoors playing, exploring and developing his mind rather than still it home and re-doing the work which he already spent doing in half of his day at school.

While homework is a vital aspect of learning teachers should consider giving it in moderation. Schools should also emphasise more on creating better school curriculum which focuses in class teachings rather than heavy homework. In conclusion I believe there should be a more balanced method between teaching and giving work to do at home.
