Band 7+: some people believe that children should not be given homework everyday, while others believe that they must get homework every day in order to be succesful at school. Discuss both sides and give your opinion

Opinions are divided into whether home assignments should be given or not to make children successful at school. While a homework-free schedule can be beneficial to some extent, I believe children should receive everyday homework to cement what they have learned at school, which is thought to be a recipe for showing remarkable performance in the classroom.

On one hand, I concede that no homework allows children to build a healthy lifestyle. If schoolchildren are not given any home tasks, they may have some time to spend playing with their peers, honing communication skills, and cultivating a healthy relationship. In addition, in a no-homework environment, children might have the opportunity to enhance their physical prowess by joining sports clubs such as tennis, swimming, or rugby, thus improving their general fitness. So, in the absence of regular home tasks, students probably become involved in sports and boost their interpersonal skills while integrating with friends.

These arguments notwithstanding, I contend that homework is the gateway to remarkable achievements at school. After new lessons, teachers tend to give homework with the aim of strengthening what children learn from teachers. When students accomplish home assignments on a regular basis, they can know the everyday lessons inside out, leading them to perform at their best in final assessments. Take my class as an example. There is a mix of students who do their homework regularly and those who are reluctant to do so. The former group usually shows a peak performance in continuous assignments, achieving top ranks among the class, while the latter may receive punishments for both showing irresponsibility for not doing homework and getting low marks.

Moreover, giving homework fosters personal and professional growth outside of school. In detail, homework policies in education can create an environment where children are asked to use their logic and reasoning to handle even challenging assignments without a support system. This, in turn, leads to the promotion of cognitive skills like problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking, which are transferable in later professional settings, improving students’ employability and success in the future workplace.

In conclusion, although some advocate a no-homework policy to create possibilities to develop physical well-being and communicative skills, I argue that giving homework can boost students’ productivity at school and enhance their abilities to solve problems, make rational decisions, and think critically, important qualities in today’s competitive job markets.
