Although a higher screen time could be related to attention problems, modern technologies could lead to an improvement on how our young people learn. Therefore, I disagree it is negatively affecting their skills.
To embark on, modern technologies can, undoubtedly, affect in a bad way each one of us learn. To illustrate that, it is an well know fact that scrolling for hours on social media apps, every day, should almost certainly change the way our brain processes information. This, in some cases, lead to attention problems in people from any age, directly affecting reading and writing skills.
However, one can always make good use of this newer technologies. It is needless to say how much information we have easy access today. Thanks to the ascension of internet and the evolution of embedded systems, an young person is capable of reading text from anywhere in the world, from lots of sources and using a big variety of devices. Moreover, it is possible to find out there great tools that can help a person to improve his/her writing skills. For example, there exists applications for grammar correction, AI for giving tips on how to improve an work and a good amount of videos showing how to get better results on writing.
Bearing all this in mind, the importance of modern technologies in our daily lives should be clear, specifically on the way we develop new skills. Even though a person could have attention problems, young people now have, on the palm of their hands, easy access to great tools for developing their reading and writing skills.
