Nowadays, people use various modes of transport to travel within a city. While some individuals advocate for the use of cars for convenience, others argue that bicycles offer a more efficient means of travel. This essay will critically evaluate both perspectives and provide a balanced conclusion.
Supporters of car usage often contend that it provides a faster means of transportation, thereby saving valuable time during commutes. For instance, one can travel almost 10kilometers within 20 minutes by car but it might take around 45minutes by bike. Additionally, cars are capable of accommodating larger groups, making them a more practical choice for families. Furthermore, in heavily polluted urban environments, cars offer the advantage of providing a controlled internal environment, shielding passengers from external pollutants and dust.
However, proponents of bicycles emphasize its environmentally friendly nature, as it produces zero emissions, unlike cars which emit harmful carbon gases. Moreover, bicycles are more cost-effective and require less maintenance than cars, since they operate on simpler mechanisms. Another point to consider is the issue of traffic congestion in urban centers, where cars may be impractical due to the gridlock, leading many cities worldwide to restrict entry to only bicycles or pedestrians in certain areas to avoid congestion.
In conclusion, after considering both perspectives, it is evident that bicycles offer several advantages in urban settings. Their environmentally friendly nature, cost-effectiveness, and ability to navigate through congested areas make them a favorable option for city travel. Therefore, it is my opinion that bicycles are a more suitable mode of transport for city commuting.
