There is mounting evidence that environmental issues have been getting worse over the past few years, thus raising the question of whether humankind will still be able to call Earth their home in the future. In this context, although the next centuries and even decades may seem gloomy, we might not need to evacuate our planet in order to survive.
Out of all the problems that will be bound to haunt us soon, global warming stands out as the most serious one, since we are already experiencing its effects in the present. Due to agriculture, cattle creation and transport run by fossil fuels, a substantial amount of greenhouse gases keeps being produced. Therefore, Earth has been heated to the point natural disasters are becoming more frequent and widespread, causing destruction worldwide. Moreover, droughts and floods hinder food production. And we cannot ignore the threat posed by other human activities, such as hunting or nuclear energy generation, which jeopardize ecosystem balance around the world.
Unfortunately, this trend is likely to continue, unless we take urgent steps to curb environmental damage. By drastically cutting down on the emission of methane and carbon dioxide, for instance, we would be able to prevent global warming from worsening. Simultaneously, the killing of wild animals ought to be prohibitted altogether, whereas nuclear powerplants and waste facilities should be placed under even stricter supervision. Otherwise, there will be no other choice rather than leaving Earth and seeking liveable conditions elsewhere in the universe.
In conclusion, there is still hope we could remain residents of this planet, as long as the necessary measures are taken in order to mitigate the harmful consequences of our actions to the environment. From reducing greenhouse gases production to preserving natural wildlife and habitats, we may not be forced to say goodbye to our long-time home.
