The influence of internet in people’s financial decisions and lifestyle is crucial. It is argued whether this influence has a positive or a negative impact in the financial differences of this world, between the poor and the rich. This essay will discuss each case and I will state my opinion about this issue.

To start, the internet is a tool that gives people the freedom to change their lifes in a positive way. Nowadays, it is easier to go the extra mile and convert an idea to an actual business. The cost of doing so is significantly lower, as often no physical store or warehouse is required, not to mention the mitigated risks associated with it. Businesses all over the globe have access to a worldwide audience, which can buy their products at any time, from every corner of the earth. Although the ease of starting your own business is a tremendous benefit, the opportunities to gain more money and eventually minimise the wealth gap in our society, are not limited to this. For example, there are plenty of investing opportunities for people of the working class, which would never be possible without the internet. Although the risk in that case might be higher, the rewards are higher as well. It is up to each one to manage the risks and invest in their future. In my opinion, the internet is helping people achieve financial independence in many ways, and people should take advantage of it.

On the other hand, there are some noticeable drawbacks connected with the use of it, which result in the increase of the wealth gap in our world. It is common to spend many hours on the internet, scrolling, watching reels and photos, wasting productive time. As time goes by, opportunities go by as well. The time someone could spend on the implement of an idea, or the time people could practise on a new skill which could benefit them in their current job, is wasted. This results in lost opportunities for potential increased earnings through years. Another way internet negatively impacts to the gap analysed on this essay, is through buying unnecessary stuff online. To be more specific, as people spend hours on the internet, they tend to create plasmatic needs, in which, they waste money on stuff they don’t need, instead of saving them or investing them.

To conclude, the internet comes with a variety of benefits and drawbacks. It is up to each one of us to decide how we will use it. Some people waste their time and spend their money using it, whereas other create businesses and invest in their future.
