Education is a vital instrument that transforms lives and communities. Some see it to contribute to the community, while others argue it can be a leverage to achieve their dreams. Before I give my opinion, let me discuss both views.
Pragmatic individuals see education as a viable tool alleviating societal conditions. The knowledge and skills acquired can aid in solving real-life problems, mitigate macro-scale solutions or create life-changing inventions. For example, IT graduates can be tapped to create a robust transportation system that can calculate travel time, maximize routes and optimize fuel consumption of public transportation.
On the flipside, some people argue that education should be used to reach aspirations. Once people develop competencies, they should use it to pursue life-long goals like buying a house, travelling the world or being an entrepreneur. Say for example, an engineer who grew up in a rented can use his skills to build his own house or use his earnings to buy one.
In my opinion, I agree that graduates can use their education to achieve their ambitions. They have used their time, talents and resources to complete their education.
While education serves many purposes, I think education plays a vital role in satisfying one’s goals and helping people become useful members for society.
