It is often argued that students are free to choose subjects by themselves instead of being required to take physical education classes, while proponents believe that physical training is essential for fostering holistic development in students. In my opinion, adding physical teaching classes plays a crucial role in the growth and progress of individuals pursuing education.
On the one hand, courses relating to physical activities is necessary for students who take part in education in school because they play a pivotal role in promoting physical and mental health among pupils. For example, the rate of obesity in children has a significant increase in recent years due to the lack of physical exercises. Thus, the addition of regular physical activity classes within the school curriculum is an effective solution for this problem. Moreover, physical activities provide valuable life skills such as teamwork, solving problem and discipline. For instance, participating in team sports like soccer and basketball contributes to developing cooperation and communication skill of children among peers. Therefore, physical education is indispensable part of children enhancement.
On the other hand, many people believe that physical exercises classes should be optional in schools rather than forcing pupils to take part in them mandatorily because it takes a lot of time of students in schools and restricts students’ academic performance. To illustrate, numerous students who have interest in the arts or sciences would be disappointed if they were forced to spend more time on participating in physical education classes, and this effects negatively on the progress of students’ strength and passion.
In conclusion, while there are compelling arguements on both sides regarding the status of physical education classes in schools, I firmly believe that they should be mandatory. Physical training may be an optional subject but it is critical to promote heath and life skills.
