Some individuals contend that it can enrich a learner’s mind and facilitate their learning process; however, others think it may hinder their creativity and critical thinking abilities. As far as I am concerned, AI can serve as a supportive tool to enhance learning rather than a substitute for traditional education, and it should be integrated thoughtfully without compromising essential human facilities.
On the one hand, AI has helped many students in their education through a tailored approach system. Since the inception of digital technology, the majority of learners have their own unique needs, and through the aid of AI, they can fully comprehend complex tasks and assignments given by their teachers. This is because AI has intelligent tutoring systems that can assess a student’s strengths and weaknesses, offering customized exercises and feedback. Language learning apps powered by AI are an example of this. These platforms can adapt vocabulary and grammar lessons based on each learner’s progress, thereby making the study more efficient. Additionally, AI can automate administrative tasks, allowing teachers to focus more on interactive and meaningful conversations with the students. In this way, technology supports a more inclusive and responsive educational environment.
On the antipodal view, excessive reliance on technological advancement may reduce students’ ability to think independently. AI has a widespread pool of knowledge, information, and data that learners can have full access to. When answers are readily available through smart tools, students may skip the process of inquiry and deep reflection. This over-reliance on AI will result in the inability to formulate judgment, difficulty in the analysis of intricate procedures, and, lastly, a decline in reasoning. In particular, the usage of ChatGPT in the classroom setting. If students are handed challenging questions or math-related assignments, they will still feel at ease knowing that they can still have passing scores because they believe they have written correct answers from ChatGPT. Moreover, if students are using AI daily to generate ideas, content, or work projects, their personal expression and ability to create novel solutions may be curtailed. This is because AI lacks the nuanced originality that comes from human struggle and personal experiences.
From my standpoint, while I believe that the use of AI in the curricula is inevitable and holds immense value, it must be implemented with prudence and clear pedagogical goals. I am certain that it should be a co-pilot and an assistant in the educational sphere, and students must utilize their own intellectual efforts as well, so their mental creativity and critical thinking capabilities will not diminish in the long run.
