Band 6+: Some people believe that university education should be free, while others argue that students should pay for their own education. Discuss both views and state your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

People have different opinions about the case of letting students pay fees to their institutions and universities in their academic journey. Overall, a group of people think that pupils should not pay for the university. In other words, they want the university education to be free for all students. On the other hand, there is another group of people who want the students to give money to the university. I will discuss these arguments and then I will give my opinion.

Starting with the statement that universities should be free. I think people want education to be zero-fee because they believe that everyone should have access to a quality education regardless of their financial background. In some developed and successful countries, education is free. This helped these countries to be in the first positions in the research field overseas, for example. On the other hand, there is a negative impact of this decision, the government pays a lot of money to the education department while they can use this money to fix and improve something else.

Secondly, other people think that students should pay for the tuition that is provided by the university because this will support the university financially so it will be a better place for students to get a good education. For example, the university will use this money to pay the professors and organize some activities to the students to be more engaged in the university atmosphere. However, these universities will lose some brilliant minds who do not have enough money to pay the fees. For example, a very clever student will not be able to attend these universities and if they attend they will face many problems like working a learning at the same time.

In my opinion, universities should not be totally free but they should give as much as scholarships to the applicants. Moreover, the universities must be collaborative as much as possible to give everyone an equal chance to attend them. Additionally, the university must look at the students’ abilities and talents, not their financial situation.
