There is a famous debate over whether a tuition fee for university should be subsidized by the government or students have to cover the cost of the studies on their own. The root cause of this issue is that some people doubt the benefit of these government expenditures for the benefit of society. Personally, while i disagree that university education doesn’t benefit the society as a whole, I suppose that free education should be selective. After analysing the future contribution of qualified graduated specialists to the development of key industries and paying attention to some cases where subsidised fees are not justified, a reasoned conclusion will demonstrate my opinion.
As a starting point, for some gifted youngsters who possess an unusual intelligence, natural talents and remarkable mental agility financial support of any kind is the only way to afford a tertiary education. After graduating from university these young professionals can serve for the benefit of the society becoming distinguished scholars and leading experts in technology, medicine, education and other crucial for humanity fields. Therefore, having had the opportunity to attend university young people will acquire knowledge to apply it in favour of the country.
However, it’s worth considering that any subsidies, scholarships and bursaries should be available for less privileged adolescents who have a thirst for knowledge, not for those who tend to play truant and take this opportunity for granted. Therefore, in order to avoid wasting taxpayer’s money from the governmental budget, any financial support should be carefully selective. Certainly, it must be provided for those who are willing to use this knowledge for a country’s wellbeing.
In summary, providing less well off-undergraduates with free education opportunities benefits the society in the long-term. Along with this, it’s my firm conviction that this precious opportunity can be given to those who crave for getting university degrees and become outstanding experts in professional spheres. Undoubtedly, any country needs priceless well-educated people to develop and thrive for their future generations.
