It is true that human’s immunity nowadays is becoming weaken as we live in the polluted world. To alleviate the issue, many scientists are inclined to perform experiments on animals in order to find the right vaccines and medicines for man. This method faces a barrage of criticisms from some people, however, I would still maintain that these experiments play a prominent role in the betterment of the public health.
On the one hand, some would argue that the reasons for animal experimentations are unwarranted. They dispose the fact that using animal to simulate the effects of medicines is crucial for the sake of human. They mean we are selfish. These tests are consider an infringment of ethics as they would deprive animals of their rightful freedom and subject them to physical and even mental problems. It makes sense as laboratory animals would have to withstand excruciating pains daily. The repeated exposure might trigger obsessions which last a lifetime, such as stress, anxiety. Hence, the influenced animals cannot assimilate into their society and nature, additionally, they get into a vicious circle of experiments, suffering pains and fears. On the other hand, I believe that using animal to test the human medicines is a necessary evil. This is because animals are the perfect species for these tests. Many of them bear a close resemblance to our fellow man. For examples, chimpanzees share about more than 90% of DNA to human. This example illustrates that they are biologically similar to us. Hence, tests on animals to simulate the effects of medicines on people are possible. Thanks to animal experimentations, people would survive with the presence of new vaccines and medicines helping us be resistant to occurred diseases, even unforeseen ones in the future. To put it simple, the public health would be significantly facilitated.
In conclusion, testing the safety of human medicines through animals is indispensible for the betterment of our well-being. Hence, I absolutely advocate for the performance of animal experiments.
