There are a host of controversies about whether one’s personality remains fixed or changes throughout their life. While some argue that identity traits do not alter over time, I am not in favor of this statement due to numerous reasons.
It is worth acknowledging that people find it difficult to change their habits or personality because of genetic factors. However, individuals’ characteristics are not stable and can be influenced by their living environment. For example, people who work in a company require check-in and check-out procedures when arriving at work. Therefore, they themselves may try to be punctual even though they used to be late. In addition, exposure to different people, cultures, and environments shapes one’s identity traits. As a result, humans may alter their negative habits, and perspectives and adopt positive ones.
Another point is that human identity traits tend to be changed through various development stages in their life, according to psychological studies. It is widely accepted that human beings develop and evolve throughout their life since they encounter new challenges, situations, and relationships. Consequently, their personality may alter and adapt to particular circumstances. For instance, when teenagers come to the age of puberty, it is not only their physical appearance changes but also their personality. Because at this period, they navigate the complexities of identity formation and self-discovery. Therefore, they become more mature and responsible. Furthermore, it is possible that if people experience significant life events such as marriage or accidents, their personalities may be adjusted to thrive in new roles.
In conclusion, from my perspective, I firmly disagree with the idea that one’s traits are stable forever because of environmental and life events factors.
