Some individuals claim that teachers should prioritize academics rather than concentrate on motivating students. I partly agree with this suggestion due to some reasons that are explained in this essay.
On the one hand, there are some reasons explaining why teachers should focus on the delivery of academic knowledge. One of the most significant missions of education is to help students achieve high academic performances, which students can rely on to pursue further education, obtain a degree, and find a good occupation in their lives. Furthermore, as the world is becoming more competitive, job markets and universities require a higher level of academics. As a result, this is why teachers and tutors can support them to have higher educational outcomes by focusing more on academic knowledge.
On the other hand, giving students motivation is still a highly important mission that teachers should accomplish during their teaching. Due to the increasing accumulation of knowledge. the amount of information that students must handle has escalated significantly. Thus, the frequency of mental diseases, such as depression or anxiety, has surged to an alarming level stunting their academic accomplishment at school. Without the appropriate motivation from teachers at the right time, many students may experience severely stressful situations and still struggle to overcome these challenges, leading to undesirable outcomes of academic results.
In conclusion, although there are mixed opinions on determining whether teachers should concentrate more on academic knowledge or motivating students, I believe that they can handle both responsibilities. Not only do academics help students obtain higher degrees and become superior in the job markets, but motivation also can provide relief against potential mental issues caused by stress from learning. Striking a balance between these things can benefit students’ personal development and their mental health as well.
