In many countries packaging goods has become a major topic to discuss . Some people believe that producers and superstores have the responsibility to decrease the amount of packaging of goods, while others consider customers are responsible to avoid purchasing goods with excessive packaging. This essay will discuss both the views and argue that manufacturers bear greater responsibility.

On one side, there are several reasons why producers and supermarkets are responsible. They control the product design process, which allows them to choose eco-friendly and recyclable options. Larger companies have more resources, so any bulk changes they make create a far bigger environmental impact than individual choices.Furthermore, companies often use excessive packaging as a marketing tool to attract customers, meaning that reducing it does not require any change in consumer behavior at all.. For example, several supermarkets have already introduced plastic-free and reusable packaging schemes, proving that large-scale change is achievable when businesses take action.

On the other hand, some argue that customers hold responsibility, since avoiding over-packaged goods could pressure companies to change. However, shoppers often have limited choices, as most products in a store tend to be packaged similarly. For instance, a customer wishing to avoid plastic packaging may find that nearly all alternatives are packaged in the same way.

To conclude, both customers and manufacturers play a role in reducing packaging, but the latter hold far greater power to bring about meaningful change. In the coming years, stricter policies on packaging are likely to yield better results than consumer-driven change alone.
