There is an ongoing debate over who should be responsible for reducing excessive packaging. While some people argue that manufacturers and supermarkets should control the amount of packaging they use, others believe that consumers should avoid buying products with excessive packaging. From my perspective, this responsibility should mainly lie with companies and retailers because asking customers to check every product wastes their time.

People who believe that consumers should be responsible argue that they have enough power to influence the market. If consumers stop buying heavily packaged products, companies will lose sales, which will encourage them to change their business decisions according to customer demand. For example, instead of buying individually wrapped snacks, people can choose larger packs or products with paper packaging, which is much more environmentally friendly.

On the other hand, many people believe that companies should take responsibility because they design and manufacture the products. Furthermore, they can reduce the use of plastic, which is harmful to the environment, and replace it with more recyclable materials, which can also be cheaper. This is because consumers often have no alternative when the products they need are only available in excessive packaging. If companies replaced plastic with more sustainable materials or sold products with minimal packaging, it would be beneficial both financially and environmentally.

Overall, I believe that manufacturers and supermarkets should take primary responsibility for reducing excessive packaging, as they have greater control over how products are designed and sold.
