Some individuals believe that it is prudent to live with today rather than making plans for the future. Personally, I completely disagree with this idea as living without goals may lead to monotonous life coupled with depletion of cognitive abilities.
Without plans for the future people are losing the meaning of life. Making plans for the future equals to setting goals which, in turn, makes people’s life more colorful as they will try to reach them. Reaching the goals will boost their self-esteem, increasing their motivation to learn more and develop further. Achieving honored places in Olympiads can be a good case in point. When a person wants to win a medal in Olympiad they will make plans and set a specific goal and upon completing they will have something to look forward to. All of this boils down to the point that with goals people will face challenges and benefits which make their life more interesting.
Critical thinking and cognitive abilities are the core aspects of planning for the future. Planning is a complex process which fosters a lot of abilities. The first step of planning is critically evaluating the current situation: taking into account person’s mental, academic, psychological and medical abilities. The next step is analyzing possible advantages and disadvantages of their present state, what is achievable with everything that they have right now. Finally, working on their weak areas as they will be imagining possible outcomes of their actions. Completing all of the stages is directly linked to self development and improving brain functioning.
In conclusion, I believe that spending time on future goals is useful not only for quality of our life, but also for mental abilities.
