Band 8+: Some people say that the governments should pay for health care and education but others think that this is not the govrnment's reseponsibility. Discuss both these views and give your opinion

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

One school of thought holds that healthcare and education costs should be paid by the governments, while many others argue that the governments do not have to take this responsibility. Both viewpoints are valid, but I believe that this financial burden should not be put on the governments.

On the one hand, having the government pay both medical and educational bills is not entirely baseless. Firstly, this practice can significantly shorten the social gap in many parts of the world. If low-income families are given financial assistance from the local authorities, they may develop equal access to education and medical care as more prosperous households and improve their living standards. Furthermore, covering all medical and educational costs can foster economic growth and form a multicultural nation. When a country implements such a policy, more and more people may choose to study further and dedicate their careers to working for domestic companies rather than moving abroad. An evident example of this practice is the free-charge university courses in Germany, which have attracted a huge number of international students and workers, as a result enhancing the cultural diversity of this nation.

On the other hand, I would contend that the responsibility of spending money on basic needs, namely education and health treatments, should be taken by residents. First of all, offering free courses may result in poor academic performances among many students. As these citizens can receive education freely, they may take this chance for granted and lack motivation to study hard to their full extents. Consequently, these students may not have satisfying degrees or develop professional skills for their future careers. Moreover, countries where the policy of giving free schooling and healthcare is enforced may have extremely high taxes to overcome the dramatic financial pressure from their residents. As a result, many families may not have an opportunity to enhance their earnings as they have to pay a high tax bill besides their household expenditure.

In conclusion, while some people advocate putting the financial burden of medical and educational costs on the government, I maintain that such a trend may cause more adverse concerns on students’ overall scores as well as the national outlays. While the ultimate goal is to form well-grounded citizens, paying prime life needs individually may positively contribute to this goal.
