Learning different languages facilitates understanding of the cultural and historical importance of various countries. However, some people argue that only travelling and working in foreign countries create the necessity for learning a new language. People against this stereotype advocates that there are several reasons other than those and benefits of developing the nuances of other dialects.
Few of the population claim that we need the knowledge of new language only when we are on vacation or professional worker in that particular country. In working sector, we need to socialise ourselves as much as possible to make others feel our presence. In other to do that, it becomes essential to speak and understand their language. As for travelling, we should have knowledge of the language of travelling countries to better understand their culture and history. It will make our trip worth it. Language also play an important role in understanding the rules and customs to avoid any confusion or mishappenings. For instance, if we are driving a car in other country and we fail to understand the instruction or sign boards, we might end up meeting with an accident and it could be danger for both us and citizens.
On the other hand, people who are against this misconception believe that we should try to learn and speak different languages for our personal knowledge and benefits. The other reason could be that we can enjoy movies and entertainment media from other countries in our homeland. It could also be a part of our academic curriculum to learn new languages. For example, one of my friends was pursing his bachelor in Spanish from one of his own country’s university. To excel in and complete that degree, he was supposed to learn Spanish.
In conclusion, language is not confined to a specific purpose. Although, travelling and working abroad require the knowledge of different languages, but there are other various reasons for learning new dialects. For our own development and knowledge, we can learn a new language and contribute to the biliniguistic society of the country.
