In the contemporary era, it is argued whether art subjects should become mandatory in high school or not. From my standpoint, I totally disagree with this statement because it also depends on a student’s hobbies and aptitude.
On the one hand, art subjects might act as a crucial factor when it comes to enhancing learners’ sentimental and imagination development. By taking these classes, their sensitive observation ability and profound sense of perception are indirectly improved on purpose. From that, the more chances they have to approach well-known artists’ works, the more inspiration and creation they are fostered. In some high schools in central Vietnam, students are open to the art classes that offer them to acquire the art aspects from the late artist, named To Ngoc Van, to create their pieces of painting and drawing. It’s undoubtedly this will be one of the vital premises for students’ well-rounded development in the long run.
On the other hand, overall academic performance will be gradually affected if some are forced to take art classes as a requirement. It is indispensable that enthusiasm about painting and drawing is not for entire groups of students, leading to boredom and unpleasantness whenever they have to forcibly participate in the activities. It is not to mention that, some are born with no artistic gifts, or even interests in arts, causing them certain difficulties in their achievement in classes promptly. Instead of doing so, they would rather allocate their time to the subjects that they place the most concern and maintain their concentration in school such as mathematics, and sports.
In conclusion, although painting and drawing bring a multitude of benefits to high schoolers’ development, I am convinced that these subjects should not be mandatory in school. Students are likely to opt for subjects that they are truly passionate about.
