Although there is a belief that adults should learn practical skills on their own, I still think learning with a teacher is a better option because of some reasons.
On the one hand, most people strongly believe that older people can learn everything by themselves, especially practical skills, because of the experience they have. Adults already have knowledge and experience, so it would be easy to understand new skills faster and connect them with real-life situations. Additionally, these people can find information on the internet without struggling. Searching for information such as videos, courses, and tutorials from YouTube or online learning websites makes it possible to learn almost any skill. For example, they can learn about programming or computer science online from the Harvard CS50 website, which was created by Harvard professors to make the learning process easier and more enjoyable for individuals.
However, I strongly believe that adults may receive support and guidance from experts. Firstly, teachers have deep knowledge and years of experience in their field, so that they can explain things clearly and correctly. This helps learners avoid confusion and learn fast. Secondly, practicing with a teacher saves time. Instead of searching for information, which requires hours, learners get direct explanations from a tutor. Moreover, teachers can adapt lessons to the learner’s level, needs, and learning style, which would take many days if the learner tried to do it by himself or herself. As an example, my mother learnt how to administer an injection 3 years ago; she searched online, found videos but could not master it on her own. Then, she visited “Medice LC” in our hometown, which has many professionals in this field, and acquired this skill in just 3 months.
In conclusion, it is understandable why some think that adults should grasp practical skills by themselves because of having enough resources and flexibility, while I do believe acquiring new aptitude under an expert’s control may make the process faster and more comfortable.
