Nowadays, the question of whether homework is important for pupils is highly debated issue. Although, there are some arguments against setting homework, I believe it plays a crucial role in children’s education.
On the one hand, some parents argue that homework is unnecessary. Firstly, there is evidence that support the idea of giving homework does not significantly improve pupils’ academic performance. For example, educationally developed countries such as Finland, where students receive little or no homework, consistently rank among the top education systems worldwide. Secondly, many parents would consider that after long school days, homework places additional pressure on children and reduce their time for rest and family activities.
However, I agree with those who believe that homework is beneficial for school children. This is because, completing homework help develop a sense of responsibility and allows students to study at their own pace. Moreover, it enables learners to apply and reinforce what they have been taught in class. For instance, by practicing mathematics exercises, students consolidate concepts explained by the teacher. In my opinion, developing independent learning skills at an early age is essential for success in adult life.
In conclusion, although homework may seem unnecessary to some, it is vital for the long-term development of children, Therefore, I believe that pupils should be given homework in a balanced and appropriate manner.
