Band 6+: Some people think our first impression of someone is important, while others think we should not judge another person so quickly and should take our time to get to know them better. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some individuals think that what first impresses other people is crucial, while others think that instead of making a quick judgment about another person, we should take time to identify their personalities better. In this essay, I will examine both aspects of the argument before proposing my view that it is better for people to take time to know each other’s personal identities better.

On the one hand, first impressions help in fostering further positive assumptions. For example, when the interviewees dress well for the job interview, the interviewers may assume that these participants are dedicated and hard-working. This is because looking presentable takes lots of effort and time, and the people expending this effort are determined to pursue the company’s position. Consequently, increasing the acceptant rate to work in the companies and receiving a good assumption from the boss.

On the other hand, I believe that it is more significant to take time to get to know someone. This allows for the observation of consistent behaviors, resulting in meaningful relationships. In some circumstances, some individuals’s first impressions do not reflect total their personalities. For example, some parents think that students who dye their hair color and have tattoos may be impolite, however, it is not a true case as these things are just their personal interests. When parents take time to communicate and share with these students, they may find that these students are well-mannered people with interesting hobbies. Therefore, this boosts better understanding among people, bridging the generation gaps and building closer relationships.

In conclusion, it is understandable why people think that first impressions are vital because they help build further positive assumptions in other people’s minds. However, I still believe that taking time to know somebody is more significant due to better observation of consistent behaviors, resulting in closer relationships.
