Playing sports has become a topic of debate, with some people believing that it is crucial for the development of society, while others argue that it is just a leisure activity. I agree with the former and in the following paragraphs, I will examine both sides pertaining to this issue.
On the one hand, many people think that sports are just pastime activities in their lives because they tend to focus on other aspects of life that they consider more important. Many adults usually spend a large proportion of their time working and earning money. They only participate in physical activities that are of a work-related nature, such as playing golf with partners. Another reason is many people do not know about the benefits that sports bring such as improving physical health, preventing illness and extending longevity.
On the other hand, I completely agree with people who consider sports to be a prominent factor in the development of society. Sports foster social cohesion and community spirit. Major sporting events, whether local, national, or international, bring people together, transcending differences in race, religion, and socioeconomic status. Furthermore, sports instill important life values such as discipline, teamwork, and resilience. These skills and attitudes are transferable to other areas of life, including education and employment, contributing to the overall development of society.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that sports play a diverse role in society, serving both as a source of leisure and a significant contributor to social development.
