It is often argued that the growth of technology helps to reduce crime, while others believe that the methods of crime are simply evolving. This essay will discuss both views and provide writer’s perspective.
On the one hand, some people believe that development of technology reduce the crime rate. The wide use of CCTV is a good example. Nowadays, there are cameras that monitor public areas in real time wherever people go, which helps the police track and arrest criminals more efficiently. In addition, advanced security systems such as facial recognition and alarms are effective in reducing theft and improving public safety.
On the other hand, others argue that technology actually encourages more crime because of the exposure of personal information, which leads to various cybercrimes. For instance, people often upload their personal details and share private data such as their address and phone number, which can be misused by hackers. Furthermore, people post their faces and daily lives on social media, and this can lead to issues such as deepfakes or impersonation. In fact, the number of cybercrimes has doubled compared to the last ten years.
From my perspective, I strongly agree that technology encourages more crime nowadays. People easily upload their personal information without realising that they are exposing themselves to strangers who may be hackers or criminals. As cybercrimes and online fraud become more common, individuals need to be more aware and careful when sharing anything online.
In conclusion, although the development of technology helps reduce certain types of crime through improved security systems, its risks outweigh its benefits due to the increasing exposure of personal information.
