Many people say that no one can feel the culture of a country if they don’t speak the language. I oppose this idea because language isn’t a barrier between different cultures; it’s an addition to them.
Not speaking a language does not mean that you won’t understand the atmosphere, national dances, and taste of food in a particular country; it doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to understand locals either. Speech is a part of a culture, not its whole. There are many different ways on how to convey your thoughts or emotions to people while exploring some fascinating historical landmarks; it’s never limited to just dialect.
For example, if you come to Japan, you will still be able to enjoy the view of the sakura leaves falling, the powerful aura from the Minka buildings, and join the traditional dances without speaking to the natives. Learning history helps too; you will be able to know what and where happened by simply reading or watching about it online and recognizing those things while spending your time in that country.
In a world full of all sorts of different ways to express ourselves and perceive others, there’s no possibility of not recognizing all those unique and wonderful cultures by only not being able to exchange words with their inhabitants.
