Some individuals are of a claim that economic development is solely the solution to obtain a better quality of life. I partially agree with this point of view due to some reasons, which will be presented in this essay.
On the one hand, a better quality of life means that people possess the right to protect and develop themselves. These problems can be solved if Education and Healthcare are accessible to all citizens, no matter what social class they are. In the case that a nation is economically developed, the government would have enough budgets to cover the cost of those aspects, leading to the ensure of health and advancement of the citizen’s career. This is the reason why many people believe that economic development is a vital condition of improving citizen’s lives.
On the other hand, there are some other approaches that could help obtain success on a daily basis without relying on economic development. A clear picture that advancement in economics did not solve the problems can be witnessed in the case of China. This country ranks second in the world’s GDP, nevertheless, yet still reporting a high proportion of poverish, inflation and inequity. For these reasons, an increase in job opportunities may be a more optimal solution. Quality of living of citizens can be improved due to the budget from working, offering a higher access to other sectors, ranging from education to healthcare. This not only reduces the state of poverty, but it also contributes to the total GDP of a certain nation.
In conclusion, although economic development can offer humans a higher quality of life, their downsides should not be taken for granted. Therefore, from my point of view, there still are other solutions without depending on economic advancement to deal with those problems such as enhancing job opportunities for citizens, something may be more comprehensive.
