Band 7+: Some people think that charity organizations should only offer help to people of their own country. But others believe that these organizations should give aid to people in great need wherever they live. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Currently, there have been hotly-contested debates regarding the helping scale of humanitarian organisations. While some support aiding citizens of their own country solely, others appreciate the global humanitarian relief. Both views have their own merits and ultimately, prioritising which one is crucial for improving underprivileged people’s lives.

On the one hand, relief agencies should focus on assisting their nations as a national issue solving priority. Compromising domestic problems like poverty, homelessness, or healthcare shortages had better be accomplished before looking abroad to warrant national welfare resources. For instance, a country with high unemployment may need more support for its citizens as a means to alleviate financial burdens on governmental bodies, boosting the wider economy. Furthermore, an efficient use of resources is also what local non-profit organizations should take into consideration. Local charities can operate more productively within familiar legal, cultural, and logistical frameworks, ensuring aid reaches the right people and saving transportation expenses. To quote an example, funds may be mismanaged or lost in corruption when sent to foreign governments, leaving needy individuals in more desperate situations.

On the other hand, many individuals assume that the primary aim of aid agencies should be catering for disadvantaged components irrespective of nationality. Firstly, a humanitarian responsibility contributes significantly to this belief. This means that charity should transcend borders as human suffering is universal without nation considerations in particular circumstances such as natural disasters like floods, destructive storms or conflicts, which often require urgent international aid. What’s more, local voluntary organisations assisting challenged nations can impede negative global interconnectedness. To be more specific, in an increasingly globalized world, problems in one country can affect others, such as through migration or economic instability. For example, assisting countries in crisis can prevent refugee crises that affect neighboring nations.

In conclusion, while some believe that charity organizations should concentrate on helping their own citizens to address national issues effectively, others argue that aid should be provided to those in urgent need, regardless of location. From my perspective, charities should prioritize helping people based on the severity of their suffering rather than geographical boundaries. A balanced approach, where both local and global needs are considered, would ensure that aid is distributed fairly and efficiently.
