Certain individuals are of the opinion that the introduction of digital books will put an end to the use of print media while others argue that paper books will forever be in existence. Some people think that digital books will replace printed materials because they are easier to read and move around. However, on the other hand, the notion that hard cover books will go into extinction is because of the high cost of printing which readers may not afford.
On the positive side, electronic books are cost-saving; readers can access diverse literatures on electronic gadgets like computers, smartphones, and tablets. In addition, e-books can be read anytime, as they are easier to download and carry around. For example, some lecturers do refer students to ebooks for their assignments which may not be found on printed books.
In contrast, the argument that printed media will go into extinction is the belief of some individuals. Although, some people prefer to hold their books in their hands while reading to make jottings and highlight words but the cost of purchasing paper books may hinder readers from accessing it. For instance, students who have to read different texts on a particular course can easily download it online than safe their money for other school runnings than spending a lot on a course. Furthermore, people enjoy turning the pages of the texts and they also believe it helps them concentrate on the text without being distracted by calls, messages, and games. Moreover, they complain about carrying heavy load of books around.
In view of this, I believe digital books will continue to thrive due to their importance over printed materials in that it offers convenience and space-saving benefits and also promote sustainability.
In conclusion, both digital texts and printed books have their benefits. E-books can provide access to literature for individuals with disabilities without the need to attend classes, while printed media can be easier on the eyes compared to screen reading.
