Many people think that family has the strongest influence on a child, while others believe that things like television, friends or music have a bigger impact. This essay will discuss both views and give my opinion.
On the one hand, family plays an important role in shaping a child’s behaviour and thinking. Parents teach children important life lessons such as how to know what is right or wrong, and how to respect older people. These lessons can help children when they grow up and face problems. For example, when I have to make a hard decision, I often remember what my mother told me when I was young. Also, children usually copy their parents’ behaviour, so if parents are self-disciplined and responsible, the children will try to be the same.
On the other hand, other people think that outside factors like friends or television have a strong influence too. Sometimes, even if parents teach their child well, the child may change because of bad friends or bad things on TV. For example, a child from a good family may become undisciplined if he plays with friends from chaotic families. Also, children who watch violent movies or stay with bad groups may learn bad behaviour, like fighting or breaking the law.
In my opinion, I think family has more influence on children, especially when they are small. Parents are the first people who teach and take care of the child. But I also agree that friends and media can affect the child, especially when they become teenagers.
In conclusion, both family and outside things can influence a child’s development. However, I believe that family is still the most powerful influence.
