Nowadays, most people have intense schedules, making leisure time a precious opportunity to ease their stress. Some claim it is better to engage in mind-improving activities, while others prefer not to overwork their minds and opt for rest. In the following essay, I will explore both viewpoints and include my personal opinion.
Firstly, those who support mental activities argue that they provide significant benefits, including mental stimulation and personal growth. Mental stimulation, in particular, can enhance mental health at any age. For example, my grandfather has been passionate about chess since his youth. Even though he is now over 80, he still maintains his interest by playing chess with others at least once a week. This activity helps him stay healthy both mentally and physically.
In contrast, others believe that rest is the best way to recover mentally. These individuals often live in high-pressure environments or have demanding jobs, such as lawyers, doctors, and teachers, so they prefer to reduce stress through relaxation. Additionally, some individuals state that rest time is ideal for extending one’s social life by meeting friends and gathering with family. Rest not only provides balance but also serves a social purpose.
In conclusion, I personally agree with those who prioritize rest due to my busy lifestyle during weekdays. Furthermore, the weekend is the only time I have to spend with family and friends, so I prefer to ease stress and connect with others.
