It’s undeniable that surroundings can influence a person’s behaviors and characters to a great extent. Such a fact leads impressionable people to generate that the influence from outside the home plays a bigger part of child’s development than parents. However, such a statement suffers both logical and factual errors which needs to be examined meticulously. As far as the efficiency and incidence are concerned, I strongly hold that parents have a more pronounced influence to a child’s life.
First and foremost, parents are the first and the most important teachers with whom children spent the most time. Specifically, parents living habits, communication method and value conception become role models and mimiced by children. At same time, children learn the moral code and behavior pattern from listening and watching parents’ daily behaviors.
Equally important is the unique and durative influences from parents play an irreplaceable role for children’s growing process. Take the case of a famous inventor: Edison, who was deeply influenced by his father. Had it not been for the great enlightment and encouragement from his father, Edison would never been able to make so many inventions.
Some people argue that the environment from outside the room like friends and living surroudings have significant influences on children’s development. Admittedly, the cultural phenomenon and social environment have influence for individual growth, however, it is through parents appropriate guidance that can become positive and effective influence.
Considering the aforementioned factors, I maintain that parents play a more significant role in children’s development.
