A number of individuals think that the duty of citizens is constrained to just paying taxes while others believe that despite paying taxes, they have some extra responsibilities to society. Although paying taxes is the most important social duty, I personally believe that this can not be the only responsibility for a person as people’s duty is beyond only paying taxes while they should take part in social developments and help the government to conduct various activities.
On the one hand, tax, which is the main income of the government, is spent for the welfare of the country and its citizens. If individuals of a country had not paid tax properly, it would have been extremely difficult for the governing bodies to continue the activities needed to direct a country. A journal published in the daily star portrayed that people living in the developed countries pay higher taxes as compared to the citizens of the developing or undeveloped countries. However, paying taxes is one of the major duties for citizens which can never be the only responsibility since they have more duties to fulfill.
On the other hand citizens should keep an open mindset to get involved in the development of the society and the country they are living in. Because they are an integral part of their communities who have to take care of those instead of depending on the authorities solely. For instance, they can try to provide the poor individuals with financial support, they can construct charitable organisations from where people would be able to get help according to their needs. Moreover, they should help the governing bodies to take necessary initiatives in terms of the welfare of the country since the government can not fulfill their responsibilities without the assistance of the citizens of the country. For these reasons I am inclined to think that citizens have other duties over paying taxes.
To conclude, paying taxes is undoubtedly one of the most significant duties for citizens while I believe there are some other responsibilities as well which are equally vital for the people and their society.
