Band 7+: Some people think that schools should stop teaching students by using books, because students find them boring and that children can learn from films, TV, video games and computer instead. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

People hold widely different views on whether schools should find alternatives to studying books, which are considered an outdated approach, such as films, TV, video games, and computers. I partly agree with the innovative way of studying.

On the one hand, studying books is a traditional form of learning that has been used for many centuries, which we cannot easily adapt to in the short term. It is undeniable that books remain far more accessible than new technology, especially for students from remote areas. For example, children in the countryside or remote areas may overcome numerous barriers, such as limited access to the internet or a shortage of financial resources. This not only interrupts the teacher’s teaching circuit but also seems to be inefficient compared to the traditional way. Moreover, digital devices contain lots of notifications that are unrelated to their learning, while studying books will increase your memorization ability by providing a structured and distraction-free learning environment, allowing students to retain information more effectively.

On the other hand, I believe that using advanced technologies is more reasonable than continuing to use the traditional way. Firstly, we have to acknowledge that digital alternatives are making abstract concepts significantly easier to grasp, which can enhance learning experiences. By bringing about certain images and sounds that are beneficial to imagine complex opinions, studying with digital devices is better at this point than books. For instance, watching a documentary film about space or a major historical event may leave a more profound impression on learners than reading a science book on the same concept. Additionally, the digital platform enables self-paced learning, so that students can pause, rewind, and rewatch whenever they want. This is especially advantageous for low-achieving students, who need to review difficult material at their own speed without feeling left out in learning.

In summary, although studying books can offer several advantages, it is not enough to justify the fact that digital devices are playing a more crucial role in the academic environment nowadays.

WRITING TASK 2 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Others argue that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words

After the rapid growth of online streaming services, theatres and cinemas have become less convenient, especially when it comes to money and time, which I agree with to some extent, since there is a caveat here: cinemas and theatres don’t only offer the media that is being consumed but rather a whole experience that can’t […]
