Band 5+: some people think that strict punishments for driving offences are the key to reducing traffic accidents. Others, however, believe that other measures would be more effective in improving road safety. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Some people might argue that strict punishment should be sanctioned for individuals for driving offences has this will drastically reduce the numbers of accident occurrence for road accidents. For example, a lot of people have lost their loved ones and relatives due to reckless drivers who disobeyed traffic rules. I am of the opinion that such instances should be treated according to the law and strict actions should be imposed on the driver. Another example of road accidents that can be caused due to reckless driving is the driver drinking alcohol while driving, this can lead to death for the driver and other passengers in the car.

The government has invested heavily to create a good roads and should make it mandatory for individuals to complete a driving school and a drivers license must be issued to the driver after completing the driving lessons to show that the driver is competent to drive in the road. It is the duty of the drivers to obey the road driving rules and regulations, and to apply the things that they have learnt during the course of driving school.

Some others are of the opinion that alternative measures would be more effective in improving road safety. For example, a driver can be sanctioned with a driving ban for few months and made mandatory to re-take the driving lessons. While this can be an opportunity for the driver to refresh his brain for what he has learnt, I believe this is not the right solution to soft the issue of bad driving.

In conclusion, strongly agree that strict punishment should be given to individuals who disobey road safety rules and regulations while driving because human lives matters and bad driving can lead to death or permanent injury if no strict consequences are imposed.
