The rapid development of science technology lead to people’s tendency to science subjects and less attention to other subjects. I totally disagree with this phenomenon with several reasons.
In recent years, the prominent achievements in science technology can be seen and experienced by the public, and therefore result in some ignorance of other fields, such as literature, history and arts. This means that an increasing number of students are more attracted by science subjects, which are regarded as more promising one. In other words, They believe that obtaining a degree in science are more welcomed by the future job market and more competitive in their further career path, as career opportunities associated with science would be more than that with other subjects and they are more likely to have higher level of financial reward. For instance, students are more inclined to choose trendy subjects as their major, such as computer science, finance, and engineering, because they think that they can not only gain more opportunity to apply to relevant occupation area but also have the potential to contribute to thriving industries around the world to achieve their self value.
Although many benefits in studying science subjects, it doesn’t mean that other subjects are not important to students. Some crucial professions including teacher, musician, painter, journalist, and politician play vital role in the development of society and world. Teachers who studied subjects except science can likewise impart their knowledge to students. For instance, history teacher can teach students to gain better insight into the past, and learn from it and innovate to adapt to the present and future. In addition, students who study art may develop some incredible creations that comfort us and resonate with our heart, positively influencing our psychology state and spiritual mind. So, why don’t we think these subjects are efficient to us? What is more, interdisciplinary talents has become the trend in the job market, which lead to higher demand for the range of knowledge and skill reserve of candidates. This requires that students need to study more subjects and cultivate more techniques no limited to sole area to be a well-round candidate so that they can catch up on the trend of current career market.
In conclusion, I hold the opinion that science subjects and other subjects are both important and deserve to pursue for the students, as they have more or less potential to be helpful in the development of the world, whether in economic or society. Meanwhile, versatile talents would be more popular in nowadays job market.
